We are thinking of going to Croatia in Spring of 2006. We'd like to spend a week somewhere with a nice nude beach, a few good restaurants and some interesting sights to see. Any recommendations? Do you think renting a private apartment, as it seems they are ubiquitous, is a good idea? Also, is mid May a good time to go there? Can we expect some warm beach weather in that period? Thanks.
The weather in May can vary from sunny and warm to rainy and chilly. Probably further south you go weather will be nicer, so my advice would be to go somewhere in south or central Dalmatia. Maybe island of Hvar? Or if you really want to get away from it all island of Vis could be nice. Lots of beaches to discover, beautiful nature and interesting villages and towns. Makarska Riviera could be a nice choice as well.
I don't know much about you so must base you on me. The Islands off Dubrovnik may be what you are after. I normally vie away from "idyllic" but it is the only way to describe Sipan. There is an FKK 'beach' there but it is well rocky, however in Sipan you can walk up the bay a bit to where it is accepted that its coves and bathing spots are FKK. We spent a few days there then went to Lopud where there is a great sandy beach that shelves very gently. Off Dubrovnik is Lokrum (I think) which is OK but, as with many beaches, is becoming gay dominant. If that is a factor is up to you. I can reccomend a few places but will only do so by email to nwguy @ yahoo.co.uk
